KSrelief and Ðǿմ«Ã½ deliver crucial nutrition assistance to families amid worsening hunger in Somalia
Somalia is facing a rapidly deteriorating hunger crisis. 6.5 million people ¨C or one-third of the population ¨C are experiencing crisis levels of food insecurity, including 2 million people facing emergency levels of hunger (IPC Phase 4). Additionally, 1.84 million children are projected to suffer from acute malnutrition in 2026, including more than 483,000 who are expected to face severe acute malnutrition.
¡°Acute malnutrition levels are reaching a critical point in Somalia, with lifesaving nutrition services slashed by more than half since the beginning of 2025,¡± said Hameed Nuru, Ðǿմ«Ã½¡¯s Representative and Country Director in Somalia, ¡°KSrelief¡¯s support enabled Ðǿմ«Ã½ to provide more than 180,000 children and mothers with specialized nutritious foods to prevent malnutrition. As needs rise, inventions like this, alongside lifesaving food assistance, are essential to ensure that vulnerable families continue receiving the support they urgently need.¡±
Thanks to KSrelief¡¯s contribution, mothers and children in some of Somalia¡¯s most drought-affected areas received the nutrition assistance they needed, helping to protect their health and preventing malnutrition. This project also strengthened the connections between preventative nutrition services and other existing health and nutrition programmes, ensuring continuity of care and increasing overall impact.
KSrelief has been a steadfast partner of Ðǿմ«Ã½ in Somalia, contributing USD 8.7 million since 2022 to support humanitarian relief and nutrition interventions across the country.
