Millions of people in Syria are facing hunger due to years of conflict, economic collapse, displacement, and repeated shocks. 

Only 18 per cent of the population is food secure, while more than 7 million people face acute food insecurity. Rising prices, drought, floods, and limited access to jobs and services continue to deepen hunger and poverty across the country. 

At the same time, growing numbers of refugees are returning from neighbouring countries to communities that remain unable to absorb large-scale returns, placing additional pressure on already fragile infrastructure and services. 

The ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½) remains the largest humanitarian actor in Syria, delivering food, cash, and nutrition assistance while supporting recovery and resilience. Between January and March 2026, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ reached 7.7 million people cumulatively across all activities, with a peak monthly reach of 6.8 million people in February alone. 

However, severe funding shortfalls are forcing ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ to reduce emergency food assistance by 50 per cent from May 2026, cutting support from 1.3 million people to 650,000 people across fewer governorates. 

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ urgently requires sustained funding to continue providing life-saving assistance while helping communities rebuild livelihoods, strengthen food systems, and support long-term recovery.
