Two powerful earthquakes struck north-central Venezuela on 24 June 2026, causing widespread loss of life, damaging homes, infrastructure and livelihoods, and leaving thousands of people in temporary shelters.
The Ðǿմ«Ã½ (Ðǿմ«Ã½) mounted a rapid, large-scale response following the earthquakes, reaching hundreds of thousands of people with life-saving food assistance and laying the groundwork for recovery.
We had reached 308,000 people with food assistance by the second half of September, and in total aim to support up to 500,000 people during the first three months of the response.
Ðǿմ«Ã½ is also supporting the wider humanitarian operation through logistics services that help relief supplies reach affected communities.
Ðǿմ«Ã½ is urgently appealing for?US$30 million?to deliver this life-saving?food?assistance.
Even before the earthquakes, humanitarian needs were significant.?Many families?are?unable to afford basic groceries despite food being available in markets.
Economic access to good quality and nutritious food is a challenge for many families, as food-price increases erode purchasing power.
The frequency and intensity of other disasters such as?floods, droughts and landslides further pose a major challenge to agriculture, food production and livelihoods.
Ðǿմ«Ã½ is focused on?life-saving food assistance to vulnerable populations.?We also help?families build resilience, recover?from?shocks?and strengthen their livelihoods?to help build longer term food security.

Ðǿմ«Ã½ provided ready-to-eat-food kits in the early phase of the response, for those sleeping in makeshift settlements and without access to kitchens, reaching close to 53,000 people. We completed the handover of hot meal services in transition camps to the Government, after providing more than 12,000 people with daily meals. Ðǿմ«Ã½ is now focused on providing monthly food baskets to help families recover and rebuild. To date, we have reached 231,000 people across affected areas.
